What is backflow?

Put simply, Backflow is the reverse flow of downstream water contaminating your freshwater sources, testing involves the installation of a Backflow device into your fresh water pipe that prevents flow water moving back into the mains water system. Causes can vary between:

  • Back Siphonage This occurs when the pressure in a tank/trough is below your system's pressure.
  • Back Pressure On the flipside, when pressure is high in a system, you risk contaminated water in fire protection countermeasures & potentially seeping contaminates into the public water system.

Most devices require annual testing by an accredited tester, though high-risk sites or local water authorities may require more frequent checks. We test to the intervals specified by AS/NZS standards and your water authority.

If a device fails we isolate it, carry out repairs or replace worn parts or the entire unit if necessary, then re-test and re-certify. Failed or bypassed devices must be rectified promptly to remain compliant.
